4-Star General Keane of the US Army paid a visit to the volunteers, thanking them for their efforts and presenting plaques to the various organizations that were helping. He stayed behind after his speech to shake everyone's hand, and take pictures with them. It was very moving to see this man take time out of his very busy schedule to show his genuine appreciation for their help. He literally went up to each individual to thank them personally.

Volunteers on site cooked over 5,000 meals per day for the rescue workers. They did so many little things to help morale, such as leaving encouraging notes and cards at each table for the workers to read while they ate.
